"Casa Sefarad-Israel" was born in 2006 from the commitment of the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation to create an institution dedicated to more in-depth study of the Sephardic culture as an integrated and living part of Spanish culture, to encouraging better knowledge of Jewish culture and developing ties of friendship and cooperation between Spanish society and Israeli society.
Leading religious figures, Roman Catholic, Protestant and Jewish, as well as political and intellectual leaders were among the participants.
France, thanks to its pioneering experience in Jewish-Christian dialogue, can serve as a model in this area for its European neighbours.
This meeting augurs well for further rapprochement with Spain, a country where tradition does not hinder modernity but where teaching about the Holocaust is not very developed.
