Founded in 1986 by then CRIF President Theo Klein, the EJC, which succeeded the European branch of the WJC, has its offices in Paris and is directed by Serge Cwajgenbaum, the general secretary of an organisation which now has 42 member countries.
According to Raya Kalenova, the Brussels office will closely monitor the work of the European Parliament, in close connection with the Paris office.
The Brussels office was inaugurated in the presence of several leading figures: the President of the EJC, Moshe Kantor, the President of the European Commission Manuel Barroso, its Vice-President Jacques Barrot, the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, and Israel’s Minister for National Infrastructures, Uzi Landau.
Meyer Habib and Haïm Musicant represented CRIF at the inauguration and at the meeting of the EJC executive which followed.
