The French do not consider the new Israeli and Palestinian governments on the same footing

1- Israeli government (coalition lead by Kadima and the Labour Party):

- 57% of French people think that the new Israeli government will improve living conditions for Israelis. 25% think the opposite.

- 54% of French people think that the new Israeli government really does want peace with the Palestinians. 30% think the opposite.

- 48% of French people think that the new Israeli government will be effective in its fight against terrorism. 36% think the opposite.

2- Palestinian government (Hamas):

- 39% of French people think that the new Palestinian government will improve living conditions for Palestinians. 48% think the opposite.

- 33% of French people think that the new Palestinian government really does want peace with the Israel. 55% think the opposite.

- 29% of French people think that the new Palestinian government will be effective in its fight against terrorism. 58% think the opposite.

Several divisions come to light in this poll:

- French people have very similar opinions about the new Israeli government, whether they come from the right or the left (with the exception of the supporters of the Communist party, who tend to be more negative).

They have very differing opinions about the Palestinian government, depending on whether they are from the right or the left and depending too on their gender.

- Left-leaning sympathizers are more positive and optimistic than right-leaning sympathizers regarding the new Palestinian government.

44% of left-leaning people think that the new Palestinian government will improve living conditions for Palestinians. Only 33% of right-leaning sympathizers think so.

41% of left-leaning sympathizers think that the new Palestinian government really does want peace with the Israel. 27% of right-leaning sympathizers think so.

- Men are more pessimistic than women with regard to the new Palestinian government.

55% of men think that the new Palestinian government will not improve living conditions for Palestinians (versus 41% of women).

64% of men think that the new Palestinian government does not really want peace with the Israel (versus 46% of women).

- 18 to 24 year-olds and university graduates are more pessimistic than the rest of the population regarding the two new governments.

42% of 18 to 24 year-olds think that the new Israeli government does not really want peace with the Palestinians (versus 30% of the population in general) and 64% that the new Palestinian government does not really want peace with Israel (versus 55%).

38% of university graduates think that the new Israeli government does not really want peace with the Palestinians (versus 30% of the population in general) and 70% that the new Palestinian government does not really want peace with Israel (versus 55%).
